Corners of our Home Wednesday

Today's photos are from the adopted child-to-be's room at Jamie's house. While going through the Foster/Adoption process Brian & Jamie were told that they needed to have a room ready for the age/gender of child that they are looking to adopt (Girl, age 0-4). Well, that was all Jamie need to hear to get her design juices flowing. With the chances of them getting a newborn being pretty slim she decided to start with a twin bed setup and add a crib later if needed. The inspiration for this colorful room started with a simple fabric sample from our friend Jennifer Paganelli's Girlfriends line called "Nicole". (see the Nicole fabric as the king sham on the bed) A large green Houndstooth fabric was made into a twin hugger and a ruffled bedskirt was custom made from Michael Miller fabric. The wall colors were next, this is one of Jamie's favorite color combinations (red and pink) and horizontal stripes seemed a funky choice to combine the two. POPIN's decorative painter Tricia tackled the stripes and they turned out great! (just click on photos to see larger...)
Wall cards by Eeboo and a myhaven chest...
A reading corner has a Little Castle Glider in an unexpected yellow plaid, a shelf with collector dolls that Jamie bought at Henri Bendel and some Oopsy Daisy art...
A close up of the Nicole fabric made into cute pinch pleat curtains by Jamie's mom...
no little girl's room is complete without a chandelier...
A custom made frame with the quote: "Delight in the Beauty that surrounds you... Dwell in possibility"

The room is still a work in progress, as is the LONG crazy adoption process....but for now at least someone is getting good use out of it.....
Hope you enjoy!!

Corners Of Our Home Wednesday

Here are some photos of Jamie's Master bedroom. Her style is very eclectic, sort of vintage-modern. She always embraces color (of course) with black thrown in to ground the space. The walls are painted a bright cream color (Queen Anne's Lace - Lowes) to be a neutral backdrop for her unique accessories....

A cozy sitting area makes the large room feel a lot more intimate, perfect for enjoying morning coffee together!...
Jamie's side table holds a sentimental wedding picture, a funky harlequin lamp, a wish journal that Jamie made at Silver Bella and some cute blooms...
On Brian's side table you can see the silhouettes that Jamie had made during a trip to Paris (Brian's lamp has his silhouette and Jamie's lamp has hers) A embellished wire dress form adds height to a bare corner...
Little fun vignettes are set up all over the room with items that are special to the couple, here is a stuffed squirrel which reminds them of their favorite thing to do while in Boston... feeding the squirrels in Boston Common....
An unexpected addition to a master bedroom are these hanging mobiles made by the super talented Alicia Paulson....
A collection of Tracy Porter bedding and Anthropologie pillows are what tie all of the colors together...
A vintage find at a local antique store, this hanging shelf holds Jamie's every changing collections...
One of her collections is French postcards, these were found at the Saint-Ouen flea market in Paris...

Hope you enjoy!

Inspiration Tuesday

Today's inspiration is a nursery wall done by a couple in New York. It only cost them $86 to do and look at how it transformed the walls in this gender neutral nursery. They used a projector to project a photocopy of their fabric choice onto the walls, then outlined the images and filled them in with paint - how inspiring!! We even love that they weren't afraid to mix it up a little and add the skulls in with the ladybug, so hip! To read more about it click here.

Corners of our Home Wednesday

This is Preston's room (Wendy's son). He is 8 years old and choose a pirate theme for his room. First we started with a solid teal paint on the walls then added afaux finish on top by mixing glaze with a darker shade of blue and color washed (the easiest form of faux finish because it doesn't have to be perfect) the walls for the illusion of water. Custom bedding by Mudge & Molly is bright and cheerful. We chose painted furniture by Bratt Decor in Navy as this will transition with him into his teens. The wooden letters that spell out "A pirates life for me" are removable in case we ever change themes. We added some unique touches like a vintage trophy and globe bedside lamp. Putting the bed at an angle creates a couple of different play niches. The glider from his nursery easily transitions into his big boy room for a place for him to enjoy reading. I really think the art around the room just makes it. Again, pieces that were chosen will grow with him for years. The most important thing about his room is that he had a say in it. He spends a lot of time here and I wanted it to be a place that reflects his unique personality.

Inspiration Tuesday!

Big Boy Room
Our inspiration today comes from this photo from Southern Living Magazine. Bunk Beds are a great furniture choice for a little boys room! Timeless shades of red and blue make this room really "pop." We love how they brought in both old and new furniture, didn't stick to the norm and brought the bunk beds off the side wall, and weren't afraid to mix it up a little. Little tricks like having a hugger on the bed verses a duvet can make a messy boy's room appear more crisp and tailored. The window treatments are adorable and very easy to duplicate. Start with some coordinating fabric pennants and add in a couple of vintage pennants (maybe from Mom or Dad's Alma mater). Notice that they used a rug on carpet...something we always suggest to our clients (don't be afraid), it adds a punch of color in a sea of neutral. Local antique stores or small boutiques (like POPIN) are a great source to find that unique accessory, you've got to think outside the box!

Gift Idea Thursdays

We get asked all the time about ideas we have for decorating and gifts so we are adopting a new format for our POPIN blog that we hope helps you out a little. Here is the schedule of posts we have decided on (and we are going to do our best to be faithful bloggers!):
Monday- Coupon Day! We will have a coupon you can print good for that week.
Tuesday- Inspiration Day! We will post and discuss pictures of well designed rooms and how you can achieve similar looks.
Wednesday- Corners of our homes Day! A glimpse into our homes and our personal style.
Thursday- Gift Idea Day! We will be bringing you an idea for the perfect gift.
Friday- New Items Day! We'll show you what new and exciting products we received this week.
We hope you enjoy and please email us if you have any ideas you'd like us to feature~

Thursday- Gift Idea Day!
Today's gift idea is for your upcoming baby shower.
We constantly hear from Mom's that the ultimate receiving blanket is the favorite item received as a gift. We paired the blanket with a set of matching burp cloths, a soft my blankee for the little one and a squeaky cookie cutter animal. We believe that you really achieve a "wow" factor when you coordinate your gift by color and/or theme. We've shown above the combo for girl, boy or neutral. Your total price would be $86.50 and (no matter how swollen her feet are) your gift will certainly bring a smile to the Mom-to-be.
