Corners of our home Wednesday

Welcome to Bella's Room (she was 18 months when she moved into this room...she is now 4).

A welcoming mermaid hanging on the door to her room.

Bratt Decor makes a beautiful scalloped twin bed! We decided to go ahead and get her furniture in lavender. It's different and really draws your eye to the furniture. The bedding is custom Mudge & Molly. The bed skirt is a layered lavender shimmering organza over a ruffled white skirt (kinda reminds me of a mermaid's tail).

My favorite item in her whole room is this custom pillow by Jamie Haylee. It was made in the likeness of Bella at the time.

The curtain panels and the paint were taken directly from the inspiration pictures found in a BH&G magazine (see yesterday's post). All of the sewing and painting Wendy did (with help from her Mom and husband). The 3D glitter sea creatures hang in the corner where Bella's toy box is for a touch of whimsy.

There was some extra paint left over from the wall so it went on this terra cotta pot to mimic the pattern on the walls.

Another project Wendy did to bring in small touches of hot pink. These were plain white frames purchased at a discount store. She covered the mat in scrapbook paper and painted the frames to match.

Some finishing touches of stacked fabric covered hat boxes and wooden letters to spell Mermaids (remember that the letters don't always have to spell out your child's name).

Inspiration Tuesday

This post is going to tie into tomorrow's post (Corner of our homes Wednesday). Lot's of our inspiration comes from looking over every magazine out there. Many years ago BH&G put out quite a few Children's room issues (we have them all in our custom area for anyone who would like to browse through them). Don't be afraid to bring in a picture or a group of pictures (not necessarily of the same room) of things that catch your eye. We will work with you to create an original room using elements you have found that you like.
This one in particular struck a cord with Wendy when she was buying her current house in 2004. Trying to decide how to decorate her daughter's big-girl room, when she saw this picture...it was all over! Bella is not a really girly- girl (i.e. not too much pink) and loves the ocean. Her favorite color is purple too. The painted treatment on the walls is whimsical and gives a sense of motion. The fabric is by Laura Ashley and although it has mermaids on it, the whole room isn't over the top "themed." Lot's of colorful fabric, painted furniture and home-made touches make this a great choice for a nursery. If you can't tell...we LOVE color (and kids do too)!!!

New Item Friday

There are very few actual new products in the baby industry that we get really excited about, sure there are a lot of cute things that we adore, but as far as a really GREAT product that we feel that every single customer will want to purchase, well those don't come along everyday.

We just received one of these exciting products in the store... they are adorable and completely functional size rings for your little one's closet. We've all seen the cheap looking round plastic size rings that you get through basic catalogs, but these are different and SO MUCH BETTER!! Here's why... they can be hung on your standard hang bar OR the wire closet systems that the majority of us have in our closets... the sizing label sticks out to the side so it is easy to locate no matter how many clothes are hanging...the set of 5 comes with pre-printed labels (newborn, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-18 months, 2T, 3T, 4T, Dresses, Jammies, Onesies, Sweaters, Jackets, Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) which all can be easily removed to switch out when necessary. They also provide 4 blank labels in case you need a category not provided.

I don't know of anyone that wouldn't appreciate a little organization in their closets! The best part is that they come in four fun colors (pink, blue, green, and yellow - all with cute white polka dots)

They are $25 per set and will certainly go fast, feel free to shoot us an email or give us a call if you need a set today!

The walls are papered with a kitchy Florida Map wallpaper by Waverly
(unfortunately Jamie's color-way is discontinued)
Fun beach accessories add to the whimsical feel....

The space is so small it was hard to get good pics of the shower & chandelier...we'll try to add those later. Hope you guys enjoy!

Baby Shower for Baby K

Yesterday we had the pleasure of throwing a baby shower for one of our favorite customers/friends. We had it at Buca di Beppo in the Pope's Room (hence the Pope's picture in some of the backgrounds). Thought you might enjoy the pics...We made Heather a diaper cake that was used as the center piece of the table too. Baby K should be here in a few more weeks. The Mom-to-be loves cupcakes so we made sure everyone had their own to take home.
A memento for everyone to sign.
Congratulations Heather, can't wait to meet him!

Inspiration Tuesday

This playroom is one of my all time favorites! Perfect for those rainy days or the too hot days we have here in Florida! They used the theme of weather and brought in bright colors and fun accessories. Check out the rain boots that hold writing supplies on the wall. You can purchase a piece of artificial turf at your local hardware store and bind it with cute ric rac trim (hand sew some bright flowers for an added touch) for a fun rug. Adding your child's artwork in their own room is a great way for them to show off their most recent masterpiece that can be changed out as often as they like. Finish it off with a great (and easy) paint treatment and some child size chairs and you have a play room that they won't want to leave!

Gift Idea Thursday

Nothing is more well received than a personalized gift, for the simple reasons that everyone loves to see their name and it shows that you took some time in picking out the perfect item.

Our gift idea for today are these FABULOUS hand-painted star pillows by one of Jamie's good friends, the oh-so-talented Holly of Twinkabella. She hand paints the recipients name and embellishes the pillows with glitter and flowers, something that any little girl would want to keep for a lifetime. You also have the option of adding a ribbon tie to the pillow so it can hang on the wall or perhaps on a closet door knob (just in case the toddler bed isn't the ideal place for such a stunning piece of art) They measure 16"x16". Call us to order yours today, these personalized beauties take about 6 weeks to arrive and are $88.

Corners of Our Home Wednesday

Today's tour is more of Jamie's home... These photos are from her family room which is done in warm tones of blues/greens/reds and golds. (you can click on any of the photos to see larger)

An eclectic mix of throw pillows on her sectional sofa....

Some fun accessories to keep it light on her sofa table....

A view of the mantel which holds an assortment of greenery and an antique window pane...

Probably the most asked about feature in Jamie's home, her fireplace surround. When Jamie moved into this house the mantel was "builder white" and the surround was made of ceramic tiles that clashed with the vibrant yellow walls. Jamie simple used embossed wallpaper to cover the tiles and painted the entire surface a medium brown. Then she used a crackle paint medium to apply a "cracked" black over the brown giving the look of an antique wood carved mantel piece... all for under $50 bucks!...

An overall shot of the fireplace...

Here is her entertainment center (one of the first pieces of furniture that Jamie and Brian purchased as a couple) It holds the couple's main TV, some sentimental family photos as well as some of Jamie's collection of funky bird houses...

A view of the sectional sofa that was custom made in a sea green/blue tweed fabric to bring out the colors in the area rug. Jamie was lucky enough to get the gold chenille ottoman when her parents moved and it is one of her favorite furniture pieces...

The home's floor plan is very open, so the kitchen opens into the family room. Here is a shot of the couple's eat-in kitchen. A mosaic table and iron chairs sit under a Lt. Moses Willard chandelier. Three very large candle sticks sit in the corner and are lit for romantic diners. The show stopper is the painting hung on the wall (over 6 ft tall) Knowing Jamie's love of "big" art, Brian purchase the "Serenity" painting for Jamie as a gift for their 5 year anniversary...
Venetian masks that the couple got in Italy while on their honeymoon hang above the back french doors...

A photo of the hallway leading to the family room, a highly distressed dresser holds all of their daily "stuff"...

Hope you enjoy!!

Inspiration Tuesday

Today's inspiration room is a mixture of colors and textures and patterns and of course - WE LOVE THAT!! Without being too pink or too floral this room still manages to ooze femininity. The first thing about this room that we noticed was the awesome painted ceiling. (I wish so much that my house had flat ceilings like these, I would undoubtedly do a cool paint treatment such as this blue gingham) The curtain panels were given a little more whimsy with the scalloped edges, a little detail that makes the room oh so girly! Simple bed linens provide a neutral backdrop for lots of fun throw pillows on the iron daybed. The finishing touch is the painted floral chandelier and vintage accessories. Timeless and Inspiring!! ~J

New Item Friday

We all know the main people to spoil the babies are the Grandparents...well now there is a keepsake book just for them to document all of their fun memories too! These Photo Journals just arrived and include 48 pages to record memories, 2 keepsake pockets to hold special mementos, as well as photo sleeves for 20 4"x6" photos of the little one. What a great idea for a Mother's day gift or maybe it could be a special gift to give to parents to let them know they are becoming Grandparents. Some of my favorite pages in the journal are the pages that compare what the Grandparent liked as a child to the likes of the Grandchild, also there is a space for the Grandparent to list a few things the baby might not know about their Mom and Dad! ~ $20.00
